BN7115, IT105 - Finishing Sintered Steel and Nickel-Based Alloy Components

Specially designed for finishing powder metallurgical steels, the soft-cutting micro-grain grade BN7115 combines excellent cutting edge quality and high fracture toughness thanks to the tough substrate.

This is ensured by the specifically optimised binder. These grades therefore also impress with their high process reliability when machining in interrupted cuts. At a cutting depth of 0.1 to 0.2 mm, components can be turned at a cutting speed of 50 to 300 m/min. The cutting inserts made from the CBN cutting material BN7115 machine over long tool lives to a surface roughness of Ra around 0.4 μm. Compared to conventional CBN cutting edges, these cutting materials achieve 50 to 100 per cent longer tool lives. When finishing to a high surface quality, the CBN cutting material BN7115 achieves up to double the tool life compared to previously used CBN grades. Cutting inserts made from CBN grade IT105 are specifically designed for machining components made from high-temperature resistant materials, such as nickel-based alloys (e.g. Inconel), in the aerospace industry. With a cutting depth of 0.1 to 0.5 mm, they can be used at cutting speeds of up to 300 m/min. This means that even larger components, such as turbine housings, sealing rings, thrust washers and landing gear cylinders, can be machined productively, economically and reliably to a high level of shape and contour accuracy.
