The recently introduced AC8025P carbide grade from Sumitomo is universally suitable for the economical turning of a wide range of workpieces made from medium to high-strength steels. The cost-effective indexable inserts made from this carbide grade work at cutting speeds of 100 to 300 m/min and over a wide range of feed rates (0.15 to 0.3 mm feed per revolution) and cutting depths of 1.5 to 3 mm with particular process reliability. The Absotech Platinum coating, which adheres extremely well and has a particularly smooth top layer, contributes to this. This reduces micro-chipping on the cutting edge and flank wear due to adhesion. The long-delayed wear compared to comparable cutting inserts also occurs evenly and is clearly visible.
For example, when turning components made of 42CrMo4, cutting inserts made of AC8025P achieved up to 30 percent longer tool life. The carbide grade AC8025P delivered even better results when turning 25CrMo5. Here, the tool life was almost doubled. Negative and positive turning inserts made from the innovative carbide grade AC8025P are available in all standard triangular, square, rhombic and round basic shapes. There is also a selection of suitable chip breaker geometries for different cutting conditions.
